ABOUT

Nawakum Press publishes handcrafted, fine press and artists’ books in letterpress printed editions. While incorporating the very best from the fine press tradition, the Press also chooses to stretch the boundaries of the modern day book. David Pascoe is the proprietor, and co-recipient of the 2016 Carl Hertzog Award of Excellence in Book Design.

The bookmaking community is blessed with an outstanding array of talented letterpress printers, hand bookbinders, papermakers, typog-raphers, and gifted artists. The Press draws from this remarkable collection of talent to help execute its goal of publishing significant, collectable editions of the highest quality. It seeks to support those accomplished book artisans at work in the field today, for in their own special way they are also some of the stories we wish to tell.

Nawakum Press takes its name from the Native American word nawakum, originating in the remarkable Pacific Northwest and meaning, "gently flowing water." The Press draws inspiration from literature and new artwork steeped in the fluid, natural rhythm of both inner and outer landscapes. It strives to share these realms in a clear and refreshing manner, and with reverence.
